Smadar Sharett

For many years, Smadar Sharett has lived and breathed the realm of poetry. After seven books published and a variety of multidisciplinary projects in which she has participated with leading artists in Israel, Sharett embarks on a new path and accompanies the new generation of Israeli writers. In a powerful and confrontational process, which delves into the very heart of the writing process, Sharett offers emerging youg writers essential tools acquired throughout her years of writing experience and helps them find within them the sources of pain and passion that allow poetry to emerge

biography

Samdar Sharett  was born on June 27, 1957 in Kibbutz Neve-Yam to Rina, an artist and art teacher, and Shlomo, a sailor. She grew up and was educated in Ashdod, studied at the "Geulim" elementary school and then at comprehensive high school A majoring in literature. She was active in the youth movement "The Olim Camps" as an apprentice and later as an instructor[1]. She completed her military service in in the Nahal nucleus in Kibbutz Misgav Am, between the years 1975-1977, as a child and youth guide and a Communard in the Herzliya camp[1].

Sharett graduated

with a bachelor's degree in education and theater history from the Hebrew University (1981), and a master's degree in literary writing from the Department of Hebrew Literature at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (2014). In addition, she completed diploma studies in group facilitation at the Institute for Group Facilitation in Arts Integration at Bar-Ilan University as well as a theater teaching certificate from Tel Aviv University[1]. In 2004, she participated in a course to train facilitators for Matan writing workshops (youth culture and art enterprise) of the Matansim Society[1].

Sharett's first poems were published in the Iton 77 Literary Magazine in 1988. Since then she has also published poems in the "Masa" supplement of the "Davar" newspaper, in the literary supplement of "Yediot Ahronoth" and in the "Gallery" of "Haaretz".

Short stories and plays for teenagers

In addition to her poems, Sharett also published a number of short stories[2][3][4], as well as plays for teenagers ("Figaro Lo Figaro La", "The Last Cormorant", "Period Meeting")[1].

Journalistic writing

Between the years 1986-1992, she was also involved in journalistic writing, mainly on cultural issues, and published articles in "Apirion", "Haaretz", "Bamahane", "Olam Haisha" and "Yarhon Naamat""[1].

Facilitating writing workshops

Along with working in the field of poetry in Israel, Sharett also works to promote and make poetry and the written word accessible to other audiences and communities in various private and public settings. In the years 1987-1988, she conducted writing workshops on behalf of the Israeli Center for Amateur Staging in the Ministry of Education (Milev) as well as on behalf of the municipality of Holon, as part of enrichment classes for the gifted (1993-2004).

In the years 1994-1996, she directed projects in the field of writing that combine adults with intellectual disabilities with high school students in Rehovot

Between the years 2008-2009, She led the project "Sipur Nolad" at Makif D. High School in Ashdod on behalf of the Ministry of Education and a writing workshop for the children of the Akim Club in Ashdod on behalf of the Jerusalem "Ktovet" group[1]. Sharett is an active participant in various educational programs in her city of residence, Ashdod, as well as Facilitator and organizer of cultural evenings in the city

Between the years 2015-2016, she led writing workshops for 4th-6th graders as part of the program "Ashdod in a reading sign", on behalf of the director of education in the municipality of Ashdod and the southern district of the Ministry of Education

In 2019, she moderated a writing process with women of Ofakim and initiated a poetry exhibition called "Medabrot Gluiot", as part of a festival from the south on behalf of the culture department at Sapir Academic College

Poetry events

In 2017-2018, she organized and moderated the panel of poets "Imale" as part of the "Poetry Days in the Desert" festival, and two events as part of the Ashdodshira festival – "Poets and Ashdodite" evening and "To this end – Ashdod social poetry", with the participation of Ashdod poets

Production and editing of books

In 2015-2016, Sharett produced and edited the books "There were only sands here" and "The treasure in my heart

Public activity in the theater

In addition to her activities in the field of writing, Sharett also engaged in theater. Between the years 1989-1993 she was a member of the repertoire committee of the theater section of the association "Omanut laam" in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. She was also a partner in establishing a library theater in the community center in Or Yehuda, in collaboration with Rina Sofer, the director of the libraries[1]

Personal life

Sharett is the granddaughter of the composer, choir conductor and educator Yehuda Sharett. Single and lives in Ashdod
